SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW
Before applying for ANY scholarships, make sure there is no cost to apply. Scholarship scams abound: If it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.
FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)
This application unlocks the door to possible federal aid, such as a Pell Grant, Work Study and the Oregon Opportunity Grant. Both are determined by financial need. Apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Offer scholarships through their school’s foundation/endowments. This information is generally located in the Financial Aid section of college websites.
Industries and Associations often offer scholarships to students going into a particular field. Be sure to check industry groups for scholarships.

Local Scholarships – This list of awards open to YCHS students and sponsored by community groups, such as Lions, Rotary, alumni, businesses, etc,. becomes available around the first of February. Applications will be posted in the hall near the ASPIRE office.
Tiger Times and ASPIRE bulletin board in hallway – Scholarships that come to our attention are carried in Tiger Times each week and are posted near ASPIRE until their deadline.
Job Corps -- http://www.jobcorps.gov/home.aspx Free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job

Livestock scholarships – search species and breed websites, examples: www.NRHA.com and www.AQHA.com for horses; www.adga.org and www.abga.org for sheep and goats
